Cambridge IELTS 18 Academic (2023) can help you see how your current approach holds up across the four IELTS skills. Use the first untouched test diagnostically, then save later papers for targeted practice and a comparable progress check.
The Cambridge IELTS 18 Academic catalogue page gives the edition details. Check the format and access included with the copy you own, since product versions can vary.
Make a diagnostic attempt you can learn from
Before starting, note your conditions: date, timing, interruptions, and whether the material is new to you. Complete the sections without pausing to check answers. Keep a mark beside uncertain responses, since a correct guess may still point to a strategy that needs work.
When you review, group errors by cause rather than by question number. Useful categories include paraphrase recognition, distractors, time management, task coverage, grammar control, and idea development. Use only categories that explain a real decision you made.
Review answers and choose what to practise next
Choose one or two recurring causes for the next study session. For Reading, practise finding evidence in a new passage. For Listening, identify the final answer after a correction or contrast. For Writing, plan from the prompt before polishing language. For Speaking, practise adding a specific example to a short answer.
Leave a later test untouched until you want a fresh check under similar conditions. A score comparison is more informative when timing and familiarity are similar, but separate practice books are not perfectly equivalent measures.
